Abstract: To evaluate the long-term visual and refractive outcomes stability and safety of customized LASEK in correction of low to moderate myopia and ocular biometric changes after surgery.

Methods: Seventy eyes of 35 patients were treated by customized LASEK for correction of myopia <6.0 diopter were included. Uncorrected (UCVA) and distance corrected visual acuities (DCVA), keratometry values and ocular biometric data by Lenstar LS900 ( anterior chamber depth (ACD), central corneal thickness(CCT),lens thickness and axial length) were evaluated pre and 8 years postoperatively.

Results: The mean pre-operative spherical equivalent was -3.99 ±1.37 diopter (D) that improved to 0.01 ±0.27 and -0.11 ±0.32 D 6 months and 8 years post operation respectively. The mean cylinder was -0.75±0.66 that improved to -0.19 ±0.28 and -0.22 ±0.32 D respectively. At 6 months and 8 years LogMAR UCVA and DCVA was 0.001, 0.000, 0.024, and 0.002. Mean Keratometry and CCT decreased significantly after surgery. Mean pachymetry, Flat, steep and mean keratometry values had increased significantly from 6 months to 8 years postoperative. ACD decreased and lens thickness increased significantly over 8 years follow-up in comparison with preop values. Axial length had not changed significantly at 8 years follow up.

Conclusion: The long-term visual and refractive outcomes of customized LASEK in correction of low to moderate myopia are stable and predictable, although ocular biometric changes occurred.
